Elenor Carucci

From her series Crisis 2001

I came across this photographer during my research and have really enjoyed looking at her work... it is truthful and real! One collection of photos is titled 'Crisis' and is photographs she took while she and her husband had marital issues - she says (For the New York times)

"It was photography that allowed me to be able to step away, to see what was going on. The fact that Eran let me take those pictures, in the middle of these difficult situations, in a way, reconnected me to him. I was surprised by the fact that I was taking pictures, that I needed so much to make pictures, that I was pushing my own limits, I wanted to do this. I wanted to look at us. I wanted to be able to see the beauty in those painful moments, to create, to feel myself and who I am because everything else felt like total chaos and out of control." Quote taken from PhotoShelter.

I would really like if I could help the people I choose to photograph to overcome their challenges just like this. It's inspirational.

Goodbye Uni, Hello World!

I look at my life now as a 3rd year student and realise that in 4 months time i’m going to get the punch in the face that is reality! I am now facing the biggest challenge of my life which is facing up to responsibility and making the right decisions for the future! It feels like my whole life is going to be sculpted by every move I make from now until May when I when I finish my 3rd and final year of my degree. So while I am blogging about challenges for my photography project I am confronting the biggest challenge I have ever faced. I’m now an adult and it’s time to start making adult decisions! Wish me luck!

project...

The main reason for starting a blog is this: I am studying Media, Culture and Communication and am now in my third year, instead of a dissertation (the thought of writing 10,000 words really weakens me) I am producing a Creative project and I have chosen the medium of Photography. It took some time to find a photography topic to focus on for a whole academic year. I believe I have chosen something that Will keep me interested and will make some great photographs! ( I hope)! And finding out about people’s ‘challenges’ (now you see the relevance of the name) has been fascinating. I must point out though that these challenges should be ones that have not yet been faced as it is that I want to capture in my photographs or a portrayal of this at least.

Why 'Challenge'?

WOW! Choosing a blog name has been a ‘Challenge’! At first I wanted to name my blog something really creative or that would create a reaction. I was even sad enough to search online for those name creator things...don't try it yourself they're crap! Then I realised this was just an excuse to put it off…procrastination takes over yet again! So, I went back to the beginning and thought about why I actually want to broadcast my thoughts online… My blog is now named Challenge ☺! And although its not quite as unique as I would like its neat and straight to the point.
